A new study by CRIMT and IVADO reveals that Quebec workers are taking a pragmatic approach to the introduction of artificial intelligence, while expressing concerns about data privacy, inequality, and the environment.
Based on an analysis of Reddit discussions and a survey of 1,015 Quebec workers, the study provides valuable insights into how those directly affected perceive the introduction of AI into their daily work.
Key findings include:
- 43% of respondents use AI at work, but nearly two-thirds of them use it for less than a quarter of their tasks.
- Among those who do not use AI, 66% simply say they do not need it to perform their jobs.
- Workers are more likely to anticipate changes to their tasks and the need to adapt than the complete replacement of their jobs.
- Data privacy, inequality, and the environmental impact of AI are among their concerns.
These findings invite us to move beyond the debate between promises of increased productivity and fears of job losses. They also highlight the importance of giving workers a meaningful voice in decisions surrounding the implementation of artificial intelligence.
A Webinar to Explore the Findings in Greater Depth
On November 10, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Montreal time), CRIMT and IVADO will host a webinar entitled Artificial Intelligence from Workers’ Perspectives: Perceptions and Impacts on Working Life. Members of the research team will present the study’s key findings and engage with experts in work and artificial intelligence to discuss the issues raised.
