Promised Land

Blandine Emilien & Catherine Lemercier
Short documentary (25 min.)

Co-directed by Blandine Émilien (UQAM), professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal and coresearcher in CRIMT’s Partnership project on Institutional Experimentation for Better Work, Promised land is a short documentary (freely available on Vimeo) that presents and contextualizes narratives of temporary foreign workers who work in the slaughterhouses of Quebec’s food processing industry.

Created within a film-based sociological approach, the documentary emanates from an explorative project that follows the recruitment process of temporary foreign workers, which has become a Quebec social phenomenon over the past decades. The project also includes the input of students who helped raise the interview questions used for the exploration.
